The Vijayanagar Empire of South India has a special place in the history of India. Sri Vidyaranya of Sankaracharya Peetha established this empire ar hampi on tha banks of river Tungabhadra, with the help of Harihara and Bukka brothers. The empire was ruled by the king of four dynasties. They were Sangama dynasty (1336 – 1486) Saluva Dynasty (1486 – 1506) Tulu dynasty (1506 – 1570) Aravidu dynasty (1570 – 1642)
Among the Vijayanagar kings Harihara Bukka and Deveraya belonged to Sangama dynasty. Narasimha Raja of Saluva dynasty and Narasimha Ranga the second of Tulu dynasty later ruled the empire.
The Vijayanagar empire included some parts of Karnataka and some part of Andhra Pradesh during the period of Sri Krishna Devaraya. Among all the kings who ruled Vijayanagar Empire, Sri Krishna Devaraya was very famous. He had the titles of Maharajadhiraja Raja Parameshwara, Mooru Rayara Ganda, Veera Pratapa, Adiraja etc. In the history of Vijayanagar, the period ruled by Sri Krishnadevaraya is called as Golden age. He was good administrator, a valiant, a poet and an author. Sri Krishnadevaraya was extraordinary intelligent very brave and courageous. He was handsome and attractive. He was very kind, Philanthropist and very humble. Above all he was well learned and a great scholar.
Sri Krishnadevaraya had eight renowened poets and scholars in his court who were called as Astha Diggajas. They were Allasani Peddanna, Timmanna, Ramabhadra, Dhurbhati, Mallanna, Sooranna, Ramaraya, Bhushana and Rama Krishna. Among these Allasani Peddanna earned a name of Andhra Kavi Pitamaha. He wrote Manucharitra. Parijathapaharana an epic was written by Thimmanna Kavi. Ramabhadra wrote Sakala Kathasara Sangraha and Ramabhudaya. Dhurbhata wrote kalahasti Mahatme.
Sri Krishnadevaraya gave special encouragement to religion, art, architecture and education. He was himself a religious man and was a great devotee of Lord Venkataramana of Tirupathi.
Sri Krishnadevara used to treat the guests with great respect and humility. He loved and confided in the citizen of his empire. Ambassadors of other countries were looked after with great honour by him. He had a special interest in literature. Though he belonged to Vashnava religion, he treated other religions with great esteem. He relentlessly strived for the welfare of his kingdom. He liberally helped Brahmins.
Sri Tenali Ramakrishna was one among the eight Diggjas of his court. He was known as a king of comedy and he was a great jester. He was born in Tenali, a small village in Gurumar District of Andhra Pradesh. Hence he was called as Tenali RamaKrishna. He lost his father at an early age. He persued his education on his own and became an intelligent adult. He was clever, wise brilliant and ingeneous. He was solving problems with ease and dexterity. Naturally his stories give us pleasure, fun, happiness and amazement.
